Eyes Wide Open

Ephesians 1:19 – “and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe”

This verse follows Ephesians 1:18 – “I pray that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened”.  It is only when the eyes of our hearts are enlightened (opened), that we can fully comprehend just how exceedingly great God’s power towards us really is.

In 2 Kings 6, the prophet Elisha is surrounded by armies, and his servant cries out with fear. Yet Elisha prays for his servant’s eyes to be opened, and then the servant sees that the mountains around are full of horses and chariots of fire.  Once he saw that, his fear dissipated!

Whatever the situation, God has more power than you’ll ever need and He’s willing and ready to pour it out.  But here’s the catch – it’s given to those who believe!  Jesus said “All things are possible for him who believes”.

If you’re full of fear today because of a situation that surrounds you, it’s because you’ve got your natural eyes open and the eyes of your heart closed!  Just like Elisha’s servant – when you get the eyes of your heart open, your fear will vanish!

So pray today that the Lord will open the eyes of your heart to his reality, and then begin to behold the exceeding greatness of his power toward you!

Unsearchable Riches

Ephesians 3:8 – To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

There are rich people on earth for sure – but there is no-one on the planet whose riches could be defined as ‘unsearchable’!

The treasures of God cannot be tracked or traced out – Romans 11:33 declares ‘Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!’ In fact there’s more in what Jesus has to give us than we will uncover in one lifetime – that’s why we need ages still to come!

But the good part is that these riches can be accessed by us – now!  It’s not just held out as a carrot on a stick – Colossians 2:2 shows us that we gain access to the riches of Christ through ‘the full assurance of understanding’.  What does this mean?  It means that if we BELIEVE we have access to them, then we do.  It’s about faith!

Do you understand the mysteries of God?  Do you have access to His power and riches?  In your position as a son of God, the answer is yes.  But in practical terms, our faith is the key that unlocks the door to the unsearchable riches of Christ.

All things are possible to Him who believes!
