A House Or A Tent

1 Chronicles 17:1 – It happened, when David lived in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord dwells in a tent.

Every great endeavour starts with a great concept.  The temple of the Lord which was built by Solomon had it’s inception with a nagging thought that bothered his father David.

The Lord had given David victory on every side.  David had built a magnificent house for himself in Jerusalem, and for all intents and purposes had truly ‘made it’.  Yet he was unsatisfied.  As he looked out his window from his own glorious house – he saw the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord, the very dwelling place of God – living in a tent.  David questioned himself ‘how can I live in glory, when my God is dwelling in a tent?’.

Thus began the process of building something glorious for God.

It works the same way with us today.  When we turn our eyes off ourselves, and look to see what is happening around our lives to ensure God’s glory and fame – it’s a brewing pot for ideas that are not only fantastic, but the kind of ideas that can literally change history!
