1 Chronicles 5:26 – The God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river of Gozan, to this day.
This is a verse that may not look particularly fascinating unless you know a bit of the history.
When Israel was coming into the Promised Land, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh all asked Joshua if they could have their inheritance not actually in the promised land, but just outside of it. They had found a spot they liked and they wanted to live there.
So hundreds of years later, when an enemy king is roused against Israel, then these tribes were separated from the rest of Israel by the river Jordan and were like sitting ducks for the enemy king.
God has a best plan for our lives – but sometimes He will allow us to take less than what His best for us is. But when we do that, we will always regret it later on.
Hang in there for ALL that God has promised. Don’t settle for anything less!
