Matthew 27:43 – "He trusts in God. Let him deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, `I am the Son of God.`”
As Jesus was dying on the cross, crowds gathered around and heaped abuse on him. As well as saying ‘if you are the son of God, you can get yourself down’, they also leveled the words above at him too.
Amazingly, in saying this, they quote almost verbatim from Psalm 22. This Psalm contains vivid words that accurately prophesied what would happen to Jesus while He was upon the cross. And in verse 8 of Psalm 22, those who surround him say ‘He trusts in Yahweh; Let him deliver him; Let him rescue him, since he delights in him’
Ephesians 2 mentions the fact that the spirit of this age (satan) can actively work through those who oppose the gospel. These words had their origin not from humans, but from the evil spirits that were rejoicing and mocking the son of God as he lay in weakness. Yet little did they know that God would deliver Him, and He would be back!!
